Who is the Weather Guy?
NEWG is an independent New England weather product. A full founder profile with the founder's approved name, photo, background or credentials, and professional link is being added to the About page rather than being invented here.
How is NEWG different from Weather Underground or MyRadar?
NEWG is intentionally focused on New England and combines everyday weather information with NEWG editorial forecast discussion, regional products, long-range guidance, and a dedicated winter operations tier. Weather Underground and MyRadar serve broader audiences and have different strengths, including personal weather station data and radar-first experiences.
Why should I pay $60 a year for Contractor Group?
Contractor Group is designed around winter operations decisions. It adds location-specific timing, snow and ice guidance, freeze and refreeze windows, worst operating periods, treatment and plowing signals, and private NEWG chat on top of Premium.
Can I try NEWG before paying?
Yes. You can create a free NEWG account without entering a credit card. Paid features are optional upgrades.
How accurate are NEWG forecasts?
NEWG uses official NOAA and National Weather Service data alongside NEWG forecast discussion and regional guidance. Weather forecasts always contain uncertainty, so NEWG updates information as observations and forecast guidance change rather than promising perfect accuracy.
Does NEWG work offline?
NEWG is a Progressive Web App. When a connection drops, supported devices can reopen the saved app shell and may show recently cached weather information. Cached information is not live, so always check its timestamp before making a weather-sensitive decision.
Are official weather warnings free?
Official NWS alerts and life-safety information remain visible in NEWG. Paid subscriptions add deeper tools and paid push-notification features; safety information itself is not hidden behind a paywall.
Who is NEWG not for?
If you need a worldwide forecast product, NEWG is probably not the right primary weather app. Its coverage and editorial focus are New England.
